SEMIKRON and Silicon Mobility announce their collaboration on a 24 V to 96 V inverter platform for battery-powered autos as much as 50 kW – WFMZ Allentown

SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS, France, April 15, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – SEMIKRON, a leading manufacturer of power electronics, and Silicon Mobility, a solution provider for the digital control of electrified powertrains, today announced the availability of a 24 V to 96 V inverter platform for battery-powered vehicles and industrial off- Power vehicles known. Road vehicles. The inverter platform delivers from 10 kW to 50 kW and combines the SEMIKRON SKAI® 3 LV inverter and the OLEA® inverter and electric motor control solution from Silicon Mobility.

An ultra compact MOSFET inverter system

On the one hand, SEMIKRON supplies SKAI® 3 LV, the power supply and assembly with an advanced integrated MOSFET module with connected intermediate circuit, gate driver, protection functions and sensors. It comes with a complete power solution for 3-phase motor drive and a pre-built power section that shortens time to market. All of this is proposed in a bespoke cover to offer an ultra compact MOSFET inverter. The 3rd generation of the industrial MOSFET inverter SKAI LV is the 7th generation of the inverter technology manufactured by SEMIKRON with more than 1.5 million MOSFET inverters on site. The 3rd generation is a platform concept that offers standard design versions or can be adapted to the needs of the user. The converter can be easily and quickly connected to a custom control board, while control is left to the customer.

A highly configurable and intuitive control solution

Silicon Mobility, on the other hand, supplies the OLEA® COMPOSER – T222 Starter Kit for SKAI3 LV, the digital control and software aspects of the platform. It contains a reference control card with OLEA® T222 FPCU, a powerful control chip, and OLEA® APP INVERTER, a control software application adapted for the SKAI 3 LV inverter power module and fully configurable to handle a variety of 3-phase PMSM and to support WRSM electric motor and position sensors. The application offers efficient and safe torque and speed management with FoC (Field Oriented Control) and SVPWM algorithms (Variable Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation) from 2 kHz to 100 kHz. It also contains numerous configurable safety mechanisms for error detection and reaction such as overcurrent, overvoltage and overtemperature. Calibration and validation are made possible thanks to native ASAM standard support. The starter kit also contains vehicle-specific software demo code, GUI software for re-measurement, configuration, calibration and firmware updates.

A start-up aid for rapid system development and open to adjustments

The combined solution gives users access to an optimized, top-notch and fully sketched Power + Control inverter platform. Both SEMIKRON and Silicon Mobility have a ready-to-use service that customers can use to get the solution right away and enable rapid prototyping and the development of any industrial or automotive system. The platform can be accessed as a white box in which users can adapt the packaging / housing of the SEMIKRON power module upon request and access the OLEA APP INVERTER object code via a dedicated license.

"With Silicon Mobility, a technology leader in ultrafast control systems, a perfect match has been found for high-quality, high-performance solutions for low-voltage vehicle applications," explained Karl-Heinz Gaubatz, CEO of SEMIKRON. "With this platform, we offer low-voltage vehicle manufacturers access to technologies and solutions that are well beyond today's state-of-the-art implementations, and offer them the additional advantage for their designs."

"Together with SEMIKRON, a recognized world leader in power modules, we have combined control technology and power electronics to provide a unique platform that is highly customizable and customizable without compromising performance or quality," he said Rainer Kallenbach, CEO of Silicon Mobility. "By choosing this platform, vehicle manufacturers can accelerate the electrification of their vehicles and offer themselves the possibility of future differentiation."
