Seoul, South Korea – Kokam Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of SolarEdge and a provider of lithium-ion batteries and integrated energy solutions, today announced the introduction of a new advanced, low-cost battery system for uninterruptible power systems (UPS). Kokam is already active in the UPS battery market and is strengthening its position with a new advanced battery system that uses innovative cell technology to increase the C-rate and energy density.

The advanced battery system with a high performance of 8 ° C supports mission-critical facilities such as data centers, banks and semiconductor factories, where a seamless switch to full emergency power supply is possible in the event of an incident and a power failure is crucial. The advanced battery system has a footprint that is up to 46% smaller and is up to 20% lighter than the conventional lead-acid battery system. With a simple and compact design for easy maintenance, the new system further lowers the already low total cost of ownership, which is up to 40% lower than conventional lead-acid battery systems.

“With the growth of the data center and grid instability, the UPS battery market is experiencing significant expansion. As a leading provider of battery solutions, Kokam is well positioned to support this market acceleration through technological innovation, ”he said Ike Hong, President of Kokam. "The introduction of our new advanced battery system to the UPS battery market aims to provide a cost effective and advanced solution to the current grid stability challenges."

Kokam is already taking pre-orders for its new advanced UPS battery system.
